Moschino Offers Sweet Military Chic

Is Bridesmaid Dresses An Important Part In A Christian Wedding? During the late 1940s, designer Christian Dior introduced the very feminine "New Look" and greatly influenced 1950s evening wear. This is also a great solution when the bridesmaids have very different figures; the bridesmaid with the supermodel figure can twist her dress into a halter with an open back, while the ladies who prefer more coverage can arrange their dresses to have wider straps and higher backs.

Say Your 'Goodbyes' to Boring Exercise

We sent our intern, Allison, out on a little fitness research and asked her to blog about her findings. Enjoy!!

We all know that a bride wants to look her absolute best on her wedding day and for many that may mean losing weight and/or toning up! I don't know about you, but sometimes the gym trips can get a little stale, so I've set out on a mission to try out new things to mix up your workout routine.

1. FLYoga - Aerial Yoga @ Ra-Yoga in Phoenix, AZ

This is one of my new favorite things! Aerial yoga uses silk slings that hang from the ceiling to allow yogis to do several inversion poses that would take YEARS of practice to perfect in a regular studio. If you've ever seen the silk acrobats at the Cirque Du Soleil, it's kind of like that. And it's not as hard as it sounds! It's a killer core workout and all the inverted poses are very energizing! Also, the inversion poses decompress your spine and with a regular practice, you can gain as much as an inch in heigh! To top it off, the studio itself is amazing in its humanitarian efforts. Each class is offered for free with the hopes that you'll donate to which all the proceeds go to non-profit organizations. $5 is the recommended dontation. Where else can you find such a fun exercise class for so cheap? Ra also sells apparel, which is all organic and American-made.

2. Pole Fitness - Fitness to Nutrition in Tempe, AZ

I just tried my first pole fitness class this week thanks to a wonderful Living Social deal of 3 classes for $29. A drop in class at Fitness to Nutrition is usually $20, which is actually considerably cheaper than other pole studios in the Valley. They constantly have deals on their classes too, so watch out on Groupon, Living Social, Amazon Local, and the like. The intro class is so incredibly fun! Everyone in the room has fun with it and no one takes themselves too seriously. Really, it's okay to laugh at yourself for trying so hard to be sexy; that's a reason this would make a great bachelorette party! Everyone is goofing around, while getting a great upper body workout! The intro class teaches pole safety, conditioning exercises, and most exciting - spins! It's actually not nearly as hard as it seems like it would be and if you want to take it to the next level and learn climbs and inversions, you can sign up for a series after just a few beginner classes. And really, what sort of groom wouldn't LOVE a pole dancing bride?

3. Exercise on Vacation!

It's summertime and you're bound to go out of town at least once, but don't fuss about squeezing in gym time while on vacation. I brought my running shoes with me to Minnesota this month and never found a spare second to go for a run. INSTEAD, I focused on doing activities with my friends and family that would incorporate a workout. Spending all afternoon on the lake could have been wasted sunbathing, but instead I kicked up the activity by swimming, wake-boarding, and kayaking. When you are on vacation, there are tons of options for fun ways to get fit. Headed to the beach? Schedule a surfing lesson. The mountains? Take a hike, or hit the slopes in the winter. When I was in San Francisco recently, my boyfriend and I rented a tandem bike and rode across the Golden Gate Bridge! Not only was it a great way to see the sites, but it simultaneously gave us 2 hours of exercise ON TOP of all the walking around we did at Alcatraz and Fisherman's Wharf.

The best way to keep your workouts from getting stale and to stop your progress from plateauing is to mix it up and TRY NEW THINGS! Now get out there and sign up for that boxing class you've been eyeing or the trapeze lessons you've always been interested in testing out! You're bound to work out new, different muscles and tone up!

There's an App for That

Appy Couple

For all our tech savvy brides, we have a fun idea for you! Heck, you don’t actually even need to be that tech savvy. A couple months back, we learned about Appy Couple! It’s just like a wedding website, where you can upload your wedding info – date, time, where you’re registered, bios, RSVP, etc., ONLY it makes your very own personalized iPhone or Android app. It’s easy to set up (though an invite is required . . . and easily obtained via e-mail) and there are lots of options for theme customization, then it’s on to the really fun stuff. You can upload photos and set event themes and colors. And the app even has a picture slider game, wedding countdown, and a champagne toast bulletin board where guests can upload their happy wishes for the couple! Guests can also add pictures from their own collections to the bride and groom’s albums or listen to songs from the various wedding celebrations – ceremony, bachelorette party, bridal shower, etc! It’s a fun and unique way to put your own spin on the newly traditional wedding website (which it co-creates), while incorporating technology that is on-the-go, just like a busy bride like you.

We are so so taken by the great images that were captured by CA photographers White Haute we just couldn't wait to share!

It's True! I'm Blogging! Jessie & Avi's wedding...

So, it has obviously been awhile since I did a blog. OK, more than awhile. A Day to Cherish had our busiest fall wedding season ever, some major changes over the winter and another busy spring of amazing events. We have truly had some of the most wonderful weddings in the last 8 months and clients that I can't rave about enough. Wedding days are LONG days for us, but when you just love the couple....and even the entire family you are working with, it doesn't seem like work!

This is part of the reason I am so motivated to blog! Jessie and Avi were just one of those couples. Despite a last minute weather change to move the ceremony for almost 250 guests indoors, this was one of the most fun weddings of the spring! We loved the whole theme of the wedding, using Tangles as centerpieces and decor to tie into the abstract and artsy style of the Phoenix Art Museum all the way down to one of the BEST parties I have seen at a wedding. The Shining Star Band kept the ENTIRE crowd on thier feet until the last song and these amazing images from Stuart at Eyes 2 See Photography capture the mood, tradition, warmth and just plain fun of the entire day. It was such a pleasure for us to be a part of this wedding and work with a rockstar crew of vendors!

HUGE Thank you to:

Meet Cara!

Not only has it been to long since I blogged, but also since I introduced another of our staff memebers. So here we go....let me introduce Cara, our Planning Manager! Cara handles many of the day to day tasks for A Day to Cherish. Being busy is easier for her than being bored, she is a list maker and nothing feels better to her than crosssing things off the list! In addition to being fully involved in weddings and A Day to Cherish, Cara sets aside a small part of her day to Coach high school track and cross country as well! Enjoy learning a bit more about her from our staff questionnaire!

Back in April, Aleasha and I spent a wonderful day coordination the wedding of Liza & Peter at the Montelucia. Liza and Peter have the cutest story about how they met and are genuinely fun and classy people to be around. The staff at the Montelucia was outstanding and Easton Ashe provided a great night of music and dancing! What could top off a great night like this but a Julia Baker cake!  Check out some of these adorable photos from Mandy at Images by Reed. Please make a special note of the most amazing wedding shoes I have ever seen, Liza HAND bejeweled these herself!! Wow. A Dress you really CAN wear again!!!

So, we all know it's a part of being a woman. It happens to most of us, at some point in our life. It may be right out of high school, it may be soon after those crazy college years and for some of us, it may not be until we reach that 30th birthday or beyond! Yes, it's true, we are almost all asked to be a BRIDESMAID... many girls find this an honor and a very fun task for our greatest friends, others, well just dread the whole thing! Regardelss of which type of bridesmaid you are we ALL end up in the same situation when we wake up the next day and look at that dress. What am I going to do with this thing? I'm never going to wear this again (regardless of how hard the bride tried!!).

Well ladies, I may have a solution for you! I am SO excited about this discovery!! Because frankly, I LOVE to shop, but can't always do so as frequently as I would like (it's that silly little thing called bills). As listening to the radio, I heard the DJ mention this website and immediatley (I waited for a stoplight of course:)) pulled out my phone and looked it up.... http://www.newlymaid.com . It's so simple, so easy and you actually get something in return for all those bridesmaid dresses hanging in the closet collecting dust! You go on the website and request a mailer, ( I am waiting for mine to arrive any day!!).  Once it is received, pull out those old dresses, as long as they have no snags, rips or stains newlymaid will take them! You send the dresses in to receive credit toward the purchase of one of their Little Black Dresses. I don't know about you, but I wear black A LOT, and these simple LBD's are perfect for me! And to get credit towards the purchase? Genious. I love this idea, I love this website and I can't wait to make my first purchase. Not only do you get a versatile LBD in return, your old dresses go to a great cause www.clothes4souls.org . Check out the dresses below (they change every few months!).

And here you go, just for some comic relief and proof that even wedding planners fall victim to the bridesmaid dress curse, some pictures of our staff at thier finest! Please note that although we are NOT that old, most of these pictures have been SCANNED from actual prints because they don't exist digitally! (Don't laugh please! OK, you are allowed, just this once....)

Meet Jessica!

I think it's about that time, it has been awhile since I introduced you to another of our fabulous staff members! Jessica has been with A Day to Cherish for almost 3 years now. She even creates our monthly newsletter! Oh, and she loves pink. I mean LOVES. How could she not be a wedding coordinator!

Can you use chopsticks properly?

Now I can… after a date took me for sushi (on the first date) and I didn’t eat because I didn’t want to appear un-ladylike using my hands, or look silly trying to use chopsticks, my girlfriends ordered me a rice bowl and I wasn’t allowed to leave (or go back to class) until I ate it all with chopsticks only.

If you had to be trapped in a TV show for a month, which show would you choose?

Saved by the Bell

Who would you most like to be stuck in an elevator with?

Ryan, my boyfriend. We’d laugh, and he’d keep me from panicking.

The Royal Wedding

The biggest news in pop culture right now has of course been the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton! There's so much fascination surrounding the details of the wedding; a few details have been released so far, but the most intersting ones are still under wraps, like who designed her dress. Palace workers are also worried about the possible rain for friday's ceremony, and are keeping plenty of umbrellas on hand to make sure nothing is ruined. Here are a few of the details we DO know so far, the rest we'll have to wait until friday to find out. Coverage of the wedding begins around 2AM tonight, looks like slumber party time!!

One thing we do know is that the cake will indeed be a multi layer fruitcake designed by London based baker Fiona Cairns. She started baking 4 weeks in advance to allow for the process it takes to make a fruit cake, involving soaking it in rum. Fruitcakes are traditional English treats usually reserved for weddings and Christmas.

Also under top secret wraps are the details of the soon to be married couple's bachelor and bachelorette parties. Both have taken place, and the details of both have been kept heavily guarded.  The bachelor party took place at a private estate with about 20 of Prince William's closest friends. Word got out that the party was to center around water sports, so they actually switched the theme to keep us guessing. Kate's sister Pippa planned out her party, and actually booked four different venues and only told the guests where it was right before the event to keep as private as possible. One of the venues she booked was the trendy Eighty-Six restaurant in London, and a Dirty Dancing themed party at the Middleton house was said to have been planned as well.

Every girl wants to feel like a princess on her wedding day, Kate Middleton is one of the few who actually will be. With that comes the ever difficult decision: which tiara should to wear? She has a few choices to pick from, none of which I would mind borrowing for a day as well. The first (top left) once belonged to Queen Mary's mother, the Duchess of Teck, whose prized jewelry collection was passed down to her daughter upon her death in 1897. Her second choice is the Strathmore (top right), given to the late Queen Mother on the occasion of her engagement to Prince Albert. The third choice is The Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara (bottom left) which was Worn by Queen Mary, it was passed to granddaughter Elizabeth on her wedding day. Since then, the headpiece has been spotted on the Queen during her visit to Bangladesh in 1983 and, more recently, to a state dinner in Toronto. Finally, a fourth (and most unlikely) choice could be the Delhi Durbar (bottom right). It was made by Garrard for Queen Mary during the Delhi Durbar in 1911. The Delhi Durbar is when King George V and Queen Mary became the rulers of India. It is unlikely that this will be her choice though because it has more recently been seen on Prince Charles' new wife Camilla.

The royal couple chose some special favors to give out. Guests like Elton John, David and Victoria Beckham, and Joss Stone will receive custom luxury scarves made by Centex, a posh apparel company who manufactures scarves for companies like Burberry. The scarves will come in three color combinations and feature the Union Jack design on them with an animal print. I'll take the tan and purple one, please!

Make sure to set yours DVRs for early friday morning coverage, it's sure to be a spectacle!!

Featured couple - Jamie & Sam

A Day to Cherish is so blessed right now. Not only is 2011 already shaping up to be a great year, but we currently have some really amazing and fun couples! We already have the pleasure of working with couples on one of the most important and exciting times in thier lives but to add to that, enjoying spending time with our great clients makes work even more FUN!

I want to introduce you to Jamie and Samer. Two of the cutest, sweetest people you have ever met. I don't think either of them has a mean bone in their body and working with them has been such a great experience. When asking the couple to describe each other Jamie says of Sam: ' I would describe Sam as genuine, very caring & loving, honest and intelligent.' Sam describes Jamie as: ' Beautiful, loving, the sunshine in my life and my best friend'. It just doesn't get any more adorable than that!

Jamie and Sam  not only have a great love for each other but for life! They enjoy hiking, traveling, running and many other activities together. Jamie and Sam wed last Saturday at Desert Botanical Gardens, and while we wait anxiously for the wedding day photos, we thought we would blog these engagement pictures taken by the Kimberly Jarman Stuidos associate photographer to celebrate their recent marriage. Enjoy!

Vendor Spotlight: Desert House Productions

Not long ago, we were in the midst of helping one of our fabulous couples search for vendors. Laurie and Dave needed a DJ. However, unlike many of our clients, they had one specific requirement for thier wedding DJ. Real Vinyl. Not CD's, not mp3's....VINYL. What a cool request! We were so excited to find a new and talented DJ that offered this and what a treat we came across. Our search brought us to Desert House Productions. The owners Dave and Drea Strickler have a level of music knowledge that is unlike any we have seen. They are far from the cliche' wedding singer type and are hip, confident, fun and can read a crowd and adjust to the mood of the evening with perfection! Check out a few pictures of events we have enjoyed with them and check them out on facebook for more photos and information!

Meet Stephanie!

It is my pleasure to introduce to you another one of our fabulous staff members and give you a little insight on who she is outside of wedding day! Stephanie came to A Day to Cherish in May, she was the lucky girl who's first wedding was mine! So not only did she begin her first day at a new job, but she had the added pressure of working for a wedding coordinator who would notice every detail AND the added pleasure of experiencing my bridezilla moments. Poor Stephanie! But she did rise to the occasion and earned herself a top spot as a day of staff member. You will see Stephanie speeding around behind the scenes or helping brides and bridal party at the wedding. She has been an amazing asset to our team and is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet!

Featured Venue - Blackstone Country Club

One of the most overwhelming tasks of wedding planning is finding the perfecdt venue. Especially in the Valley of the sun where around every corner you find another resort, golf club, banquet hall or hotel! There are so many things that play into finding the perfect place for you, so we want to share with you one of OUR all around favorites - Blackstone Country Club!

Nestled up in Northwest Peoria, Blackstone is a hidden gem. Let's just say it makes me want to become a golfer so I have a better reason to become a memeber and hang out there!  It is slightly off the beaten path, away from the bustle and business of Scottsdale but  holds a level of class that many venues only try to achieve. Blackstone is a private golf and country club that is open to public weddings so aside from a few members during daylight hours, your event will be the ONLY event taking place on site on your wedding day. One of the things that stands out with Blackstone is the number of options you have to choose from. There is far more than one ceremony site and standard ballroom here! One option for the ceremony is the perfectly manicured rose garden lawn, which overlooks desert and mountain views untainted by houses and buildings, just pure Arizona landscape. If the rose garden doesn't quite fit your vision you have your choice of the courtyard, or the main event lawn. Even on the main event lawn the possibilities are endless, choose the gorgeous spanish Hacienda as your back drop, overlook the golf course, or back up to a rustic but elegant wooden arbor.

Beyond the tuscan architecture and style of Blackstone is something many newley engaged couples often overlook when searching for a venue, great service and staff. Nicole and Dan - Firesky Resort & Spa wedding

Christmas weddings always seem to have a sort of fairytale-esque feel to them due to all of the warm spirit and cheer already in the air from the holiday season. That is exactly what Dan and Nicole were going for when they planned their December wedding, and it was nothing short of beautiful and full of Christmas charm. The stunning FireSky Resort & Spa provided an amazing backdrop for the occasion. From the deep red bridesmaids dresses to the luxurious green linens, there was no skimping on holiday spirit. Guests were greeted by centerpieces made up of beautiful red flowers and wrapped presents (wrapped in personalized wrapping papaer, by the way). As the reception came to a close, guests were given personalized ornaments with Nicole and Dan's name and wedding date on them to remember the occasion every year around this time when the tree is brought out and the ornaments are put up. A time to reminisce our Christmas themed wedding of Dan and Nicole and wish them a Happy two year anniversary! Thanks to Eyes 2 See for the shots!
